I am reading through the Bible chronologically in one year. Normally, I have three to four different preselected chapters or passages to read each day. Today, surprisingly, the selection was just one passage, and rightfully so, because it is worth much reflection.
The passage for today was simply Psalm 133. There are only three verses. The first verse states, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. It is a wonderful thing when people dwell (live, work, play, stay) together. Not apart, divided with each group seeking their own agenda. No one benefits this way.
“how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity”
Psalm 133:1, Holy Bible, KJV
There are many examples in Scripture of the power of unity. A perfect and well known example is the building of the tower of Babel. God noted that because of their unity, nothing would be impossible that they set out to do. Once they were divided, progress ceased.
Dwelling together in unity means more than simply multiple people living, working, and worshipping alongside each other without conflict. The prefix uni- means one. So dwelling together in unity means having one goal, one mind, one agenda and one resolve. Then God is pleased and grants his blessing. He actually commands the blessing, according to the King James translation. The benefits are life (fruitfulness, success, growth) forevermore. Success, with any group whether it be the smallest family unit or a nation, begins with unity.
