For the week of April 26 – May 4, I am currently reading:
Fiction: The Giver by Lois Lowry
I’m in Chapter 4 of 23, and I am thoroughly intrigued by how I have just been thrown into the middle of the plot from the first page. I can sense that there will be a lot of backstory as the novel is progressing through the present. So far, really enjoying this book. I’m hoping to get halfway through this book by the end of the week.
Nonfiction: Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Sheerly
I’m currently in Chapter 8. I’m listening to the audio book version, and I’m slowly progressing through this book. Definitely not a book to rush through. It is excellent, and infinitely more in depth than the movie which I also enjoyed. I’ve already recommended this to friends who’ve seen the movie, and I try so hard not to recommend books that I haven’t finished. But, I couldn’t help it because it’s really good. It reads like a textbook providing so much factual information, background and minute details of daily life. It is clearly evident that an immense amount of research went into this writing. It’s going to be a while before I finish this, and that’s fine as I am reading another nonfiction book below.
Nonfiction: The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferris
Just started this book; I’m literally in the preface. I am listening to the audio book version of this book as well. I wanted another nonfiction quick read which was a more of a personal self development genre whereas Hidden Figures is more of a historical, biographical text to me. I’m hoping to progress quickly though this book by listening while completing daily homemaking tasks.
